Luck is for Prepared

Why do some people seem to get lucky breaks? We all know someone who seems lucky but what’s their secret? Is it the fortune which occurs beyond one's control or do we have to do something to invite it in? I was of the former view only before receiving an advice which is more of an approach to living.

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”

This statement was first made by a Roman Philosopher Seneca. It was passed to me by one of my best teachers Sir Kashif Saeed during management class. The concept that gets lucky by being prepared for opportunities has always appealed to me. Being prepared is about being the right person, at the right place, at the right time.

In fact, life is action, not contemplation. Man’s worth is only determined by his actions. Cursing our luck for our failure to get our desired goals is a kind of lame excuses. Fate or luck itself is not the only factor that makes our life. Furthermore, we are the architectures of our own fate. Of course, there will always be cases of plain luck in which a person get beneficiary from a completely random event. However, more often than not, you will find ruthless perseverance, dedication and hard work behind the “lucky outcome” of a successful person.

An interesting tale goes, "One day, a scholar, hearing that God has promised for food, went to the jungle and sat under a tree. He wanted to see how food from God comes to him without hard work. He sat there for two days with no sign of anyone coming to him. He felt the pangs of hunger to the great extent. On the third day, He found a person having a big plate on his hand and looking for something. The learned man started coughing just to draw his attention towards him. The person came to him and gave him food. The scholar reached the conclusion, "Food from God does come but you have to cough for it".

This idea cannot guarantee great things will happen as you obviously can’t cause an unexpected thing to occur. Yet you can increase the chances that good fortune will find its way to you if you work hard to put yourself in prime position

If you are pursuing something big or important in your life, I suggest you to be relentlessly persistent in your ambitious pursuit.
